Elder Abuse

Prevention of Elder Abuse:

Elder abuse is a serious issue affecting many older adults. We need your help to protect our seniors from elder abuse in our community. Let’s join hands to prevent and address this problem.

What is Elder Abuse?

Elder abuse includes physical, emotional, sexual, and financial mistreatment of older adults, as well as neglect and abandonment.

Recognizing the Signs:

  1. Physical Abuse: Unexplained injuries, behaviour changes, or fear.
  2. Emotional Abuse: Humiliation, isolation, depression, or withdrawal.
  3. Sexual Abuse: Infections, bruising, or avoidance of bathing.
  4. Financial Abuse: Sudden changes in finances, unauthorized transactions, or coerced changes in wills.
  5. Neglect: Malnutrition, poor hygiene, or inadequate medical care.

Taking Action:

  1. Report Suspicion: Contact the Ontario Seniors Safety Line at 1-866-299-1011 or your local police.
