MSAP FAQs

Q. What is MSAP?

MSAP, short for MMAC Students’ Assistance Program, is an initiative to help international students studying in Canada with financial aid to complete their education. MSAP specifically caters to those students who have completed/about to complete their course but need to pay the rest of their course fees upfront to obtain Course Completion Certificate, a document that is essential to applying for work permit in Canada.

Q. Who is MSAP for?

For our inaugural launch, A student can apply for MSAP if he/she satisfies the following requirements:
— The Student has completed or is about to complete their course without any arrears
— He/She has not received the Course Completion Certificate
— He/She does not have the financial capacity to pay rest of course fees upfront to receive Course Completion Certificate

Q. How does MSAP Work?

MSAP is driven with the help of the MMAC community. Volunteers who have given their commitment to the program (yearly basis) will serve as the lenders. If a student who has applied for MSAP is selected, MMAC will approach said lenders to raise the amount required for the student. The student will enter into an agreement with MMAC, the main requirement being that he/she will pay off the said loan within a specified period of time.

Q. Why MSAP?

MMAC has noticed the struggle of students who come to Canada with a dream to study and settle here, but are faced with insurmountable hurdles due to financial difficulty. It is the aim of MMAC to leverage the generosity of the malayali muslim community to help such students, especially those who’re academically gifted but cannot achieve their true potential. Behind the scenes, MMAC already started a pilot program and have successfully supported 6 students over the past 2 years.

Q. Why does the form ask extensive questions such as Parents’ details, address etc?

MMAC realizes that this initiative comes with a certain level of risk – for this reason, MMAC will strive to make sure every approved application is done after thorough background check, and more importantly, done with the approval and full support of the applicant’s parents.

Q. Why does the form ask only for final semester fees?

The MSAP Program in its inaugural launch year will support those students who cannot pay off the final semester fees. Data gathered from running the pilot program has shown that almost all students struggle with paying off the final semester fees on time to get their Course Completion Certificate.

Q. Is MSAP applicable for students from outside Kerala?

At this time, MMAC will only accept students from Kerala due to limitations in correspondence and background checks.

Q. How will I know if my application is accepted?

An MMAC representative will get in touch when the application is received and preliminary requirements are satisfied. MMAC will then launch the rest of the process and once all background check/approval from parents are done, the application is accepted.

Q. Will anyone else know that I’ve applied for financial aid?

MMAC strongly abides by applicant confidentiality – The application will only be handled by the core MSAP team and applicant details will not be shared with anyone.
